a message from Nicky

I am pleased to say that I am continuing my studio work during these challenging times and am enjoying working on some interesting projects. Do please get in touch for an informal chat if you are interested in commissioning new work.

After cancelling my spring courses, I managed to run one this autumn with full Covid-19 protocols in place to keep everyone as safe as possible. Some lovely pieces were completed and feedback was very positive and encouraging. Have a look at the Courses page if you are thinking of having a creative few days for yourself, or perhaps as a gift to a loved one.

My name is Nicola Hopwood and I design and make contemporary stained glass windows, for public and private buildings and churches, in my studio near Hay-on-Wye, on the English / Welsh border. I also run stained glass Courses, which are held in the nearby village of Brilley, in the beautiful countryside where Herefordshire meets Wales. These workshops are suitable for complete beginners, as well as those with previous experience in this lovely medium.

Using the finest traditional materials, I work to Commission in flowing styles and rich, natural colour, aiming to produce works which are sympathetic to each building and its function. Exploring themes and ideas with the commissioners and users of a building is an enjoyable and important part of the consultation; this dialogue is a key factor in all my work.

Go to the Gallery page to see examples of my work in various locations around the country, and Contact me if you would like to commission work or attend a course.

..and, check the News page for information about new courses, events and anything else that’s happening.
